What to Expect
We know it can be pretty uncomfortable to visit a new church. Your questions probably run the gamut from the simple to the complex. What is the music like? What ministries are there for the children? How dressy or casual does everyone dress? Are we going to be pointed out as visitors and be made to stand up in front of the whole church so that everyone can stare at us? (The answer to that last question is a resounding “NO!”)
When you arrive at the church for our 10:45 am Worship Service you’ll park in our parking lot and make your way to our main entrance.
At the front door you will be greeted by one or more of our “greeters” who will give you a worship bulletin and be able to either answer any questions you have, or direct you to someone who can. As you walk into the building, you will enter our church lobby, where coffee and refreshments are available.
On the right will be a hallway that will take you to our men’s and women’s bathrooms. Down the same hallway is our nursery complex. You’re welcome to keep your children with you in our worship service, but we do have an excellent nursery department and trained nursery staff to care for your children (ages birth to 3 years old).
On the left of the church lobby is our sanctuary. No one will come and tell you “you’re sitting in my pew!” so feel free to sit wherever you like. You’ll notice that people around you are dressed casually, everything from “business casual” to jeans and t-shirts. You will also probably notice that we have a very friendly church. Several people will probably welcome you and introduce themselves to you.
The worship service usually begins with some upbeat music. The words are projected in the front of the sanctuary. Our worship style is “blended,” as we strive to use both classic church hymns and contemporary worship choruses to draw our hearts to listen for God’s voice. About mid-way through our service, we will have a time to dismiss our preschooler’s for Preschool Praise (ages 3 – preK), and our older children for Children’s Church (K – 6th grade). You’re welcome to walk your children to their classes to make sure they are comfortable worshiping there.
Our services usually also include a time of prayer led by the pastor, and a sermon. The pastor usually speaks for about 35 minutes and does his best to make the messages interesting, enjoyable, and relevant to daily life. The sermons are firmly grounded in the Biblical text, but also very practical so that you can leave the service knowing how to live a life closer to Christ the next week. We try to make each message something you can actually use and that makes sense to what you’re actually going through.
After the service you can go to the nursery and pick up your young children, and the preschoolers and children’s church children will be coming up from their classrooms soon after the service ends.
That’s about it. People constantly tell us that they really felt comfortable: "at home" are the words we hear most frequently. If you don't yet have a church home, we hope you’ll stop by this Sunday. And if you do, please come down and say “hi,” and tell us that you found out about our church on the Internet.
