Who are we?

We are a congregation who by grace seeks to walk in the living traditions of Jesus:
to welcome those who are too often excluded;
to take care of those in need;
to minister to the sick and those who grieve;
to grow in grace and truth.

Our hope in these living traditions is to share in the love and hospitality of Jesus.

 Who we are as a people:
Cameron Church of the Nazarene is a small, rural, family-oriented congregation. We've been around since the early 1950s when the pastor from the Canaan Hills Church of the Nazarene gathered us for cottage prayer meetings (officially organizing as a church in 1954). We have never forgotten our humble beginnings, starting out in an old one-room school house and later building a 2-story addition with reclaimed barn lumber.

Our members come from many denominational backgrounds: Lutheran, Episcopal, Baptist, as well as Nazarene. We are farmers, doctors and nurses, hospice workers, business owners, public school teachers, factory workers and more. We have a wide spectrum of ages: our youngest is about 6 months and recently we celebrated the life of our oldest at 97.

Cameron is a community of approximately 9,500 people that lies at the crossroads of US 36 (I-72) and I-35 (about an hour north of Kansas City). The city boundaries sit on the corners of Clinton, DeKalb, and Caldwell counties. We are home to the Cameron High School Dragons and are very proud of our kids and their achievements.  Cameron is also home to the Missouri Veterans Home, Crossroads Correctional Center, and the Western Missouri Correctional Center (the city's largest employer). While in Cameron, take advantage of Wallace State Park, and visiting the conservation area of Grindstone Lake to see the herons and cormorants, or to fish. And for a picnic and playground area, Recreation Park is a hidden gem.

What is a Nazarene?
Jesus lived the majority of his adult life in a little town called Nazareth. The inspiration for the name "Church of the Nazarene" comes from how Jesus himself was often identified ('Jesus the Nazarene' or 'Jesus of Nazareth').

Our affiliation with a larger denomination extends the love & hospitality of Jesus beyond the walls of this local church and the boundaries of the Cameron community. Founded in 1908, The Church of the Nazarene was a marriage of several existing denominations from the Wesleyan-Holiness traditions. Central to these traditions is the transforming work of Jesus in individual lives, the community & the world.
