Our church involves members of the congregation in every aspect of worship, from decorating the church seasonally, to leading hymns,
to reading the scriptures, and teaching classes. We roll up our sleeves and get involved. Liturgy takes on more significance when we consider our pastoral prayer. The minister leads the congregation in a prayer and together we say a prayer of confession (an acknowledgment that we don't always do things perfectly) and we recite together the Lord's Prayer (an expression of our trust in God's faithfulness). We believe these acknowledgments are part of the work of the people--that is, OUR work. We are 'liturgical' in yet another sense: we follow the Christian Calendar which ensures that over the course of a year, the entire life of Jesus (from birth to death and resurrection and the ascension) are covered in our scripture readings and sermons. You'll even notice we change the colors of our decorations in the sanctuary and bulletin covers to provide visual reminders of where we are in the Christian Calendar. If you worship with us for a year, you'll have heard the story of the entire life of Christ. |
